LABARA's Mission

The Lake Anna Boating and Recreation Association has taken the initiative to create this organization, assemble essential rudimentary information and present it in a format to benefit those who use Lake Anna for boating and many other recreational activities.  Our objectives are to increase awareness of issues that affect boating and recreational activities, to encourage boating safety, analyze issues, exchange information, and to promote our interests while assisting and supporting our members.  This organization exists solely to benefit our members and the Lake Anna boating community. LABARA is a non profit organization that is run by dedicated and committed volunteers.

LABARA's Intentions

We believe that Lake Anna is a recreational lake for boaters and recreational activities of many varieties and we don't want responsible boating activities unfairly limited or whittled away over time. Therefore, we intend to:

  • Emphasize safe boating and compliance with the current rules and regulations without sacrificing our passions for different boating styles and techniques.  Required boating skills vary with the equipment used and the result desired
  • Work to facilitate and/or provide boating safety and best practices courses for all types of boaters
  • Share knowledge and experience regarding boats, motors, and boating techniques for optimal equipment functionality, safety and performance
  • Promote the belief that the current DGIF regulations regarding safe boating practices and the common use of Virginia’s public waters are, if enforced, sufficient as they are written
  • Find new ways to serve boaters and the boating community at large at Lake Anna, not just those who own property on the lake
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of boating ideas, safety techniques, boating skills, and the mastery of all the types of boating and fishing related sports
  • Reach out to engender a spirit of friendliness, courtesy, and cooperation among boaters of all types in order to preserve the freedoms and privileges we now enjoy for the next generation.
