The AWA / LABARA PWC Safety Day 2008

May 17th AND 18th!

After a ton of work and coordination between the American Watercraft Association (AWA), Yamaha, K-38, Anna Point Marina, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and your humble servants at LABARA, we are proud to announce to you the first of what we hope to be many Lake Anna Safety Day PWC training courses.

We all know there is a need for increased boating safety education, but PWC, more commonly known as jet skis, have unique operational characteristics that call for some special boating knowledge and skills.  Add this element to their tremendous popularity and presence on Lake Anna, and well, duh, the rest is pretty much obvious.

This course will be provided by highly qualified trainers in conjunction with the Lake Anna Coast Guard Auxiliary.  This PWC course is designed to provide students with the basic boating skills needed to safely operate a Personal Watercraft (PWC).  And, we are happy to announce that successfully completing the course will satisfy the new mandatory Virginia safety course requirement.

The course has been condensed to one tightly packed eight hour day of training.  The course begins with classroom instruction and then moves to the water with supervised hands on exercises and practices.  Training incorporates hands-on training with multiple skills to include riding, handling, maintenance, and many other facets of responsibly riding a PWC.  A second course will be provided for Sunday (May 18) to meet the demand.

This course is offered on a first come first serve basis and we expect a hearty response.  The course will be offered at the Anna Point Marina with the course materials, a lunch, and someone to watch over your PWC while class is in session, all being provided free to the first 40 AWA members (cost $24.00 to join AWA) to pre-register.  Thank Yamaha, the AWA, and your LABARA team for making this possible.

If this is as big a success as we expect it to be, more courses will be offered in the future.  Don’t miss out.  Sign up NOW!  Click here for the course details.
